Podcast Playbook Series – Part 6 of 7
Publishing your first podcast episode
Deirdre Tshien | Capsho | KNOW Women
We are now at the final step of this journey for launching your podcast – it’s time to publish!
So far we have defined your podcast niche and premise, set up your podcast brand, created a clear content creation strategy, recorded your first podcast episode, and edit.
Haven’t done these steps yet? Check out Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 and Part 5 of this series.
So our next step together is to share it with the world!
Step 1: Crafting the Perfect Title and Description
Begin with titling your episode. A compelling title is crucial as it’s the first impression you make on potential listeners. Keep it succinct, include a relevant keyword to enhance searchability, and spark curiosity. Here’s how to refine your approach:
- Do: Aim for clarity and intrigue. Tailor your title to attract your ideal listener, your ‘Level 10 client’.
- Don’t: Avoid lengthy titles, overstuffing keywords, or being vague.
Next, craft a description that expands on your title’s promise, teases the content, and outlines key takeaways without spoilers. Make sure to include calls-to-action such as links to resources or social media.
Step 2: Setting Up Your Podcast on a hosting platform
We recommend Captivate.fm as it is known for its user-friendly interface and powerful distribution capabilities.
Here’s how to get started:
- Sign up at Captivate.fm and navigate to your dashboard.
- Click on “Add New Show” and enter the details of your podcast based on the materials from our previous sessions.
Step 3: Uploading and Scheduling Your Episode
Once your podcast is configured:
- Navigate to “Episodes” and then click “Add New Episode.”
- Upload your edited audio file.
- Insert your title and description.
- Set the publish date and time to schedule when your episode goes live.
Step 4: Distributing Your Podcast
Captivate.fm takes the headache out of the distribution process:
- Use the built-in distribution tools to submit your podcast to major platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts.
- Follow the instructions to ensure your podcast is compliant with each platform’s specifications.
Note: Platforms like Apple Podcasts may have specific requirements such as a minimum number of episodes. Keep publishing regularly to meet these criteria.
Congratulations! Your podcast is not just a project anymore but a product, ready for listeners around the world. You’ve officially joined the ranks of podcasters, ready to make an impact with your voice!
