Can you tell us a bit about your ‘backstory’ and how you got started?
My career started as an Accounts Payable Specialist for a large construction company in WNY, after completing undergrad school I relocated to the Charlotte metro area and pursued a dual master’s degree; which eventually landed me a career in Public accounting as a Controller for a large Accounting Firm. After working for a few years for the firm, I came across many small business clients that needed outsourced accounting but simply could not afford the hourly rates of an accountant so I decided to explore entrepreneurship and started my own accounting firm targeting small business clients. Having worked with various industries, I found a passion for real estate and begin digging deep into the challenges with housing affordability and the adverse effects of housing insecurity.

What was the “Aha Moment” that led to the creation of your current company?
My Aha Moment was when I realized that my services would contribute to the success of small businesses. My expertise helps businesses make informed decisions, solve financial problems and achieve their goals.

What do you think makes your company stand out?
Zeigler & Barnes no longer offers generic accounting services. We specialize in the field of real estate which allows us to tailor our services to the unique needs and challenges of clients in that space. We invest in professional development to stay updated with industry best practices and emerging trends.

What has been your favorite moment in your career so far?
Volunteering my services to nonprofits that share the same passion for affordable housing and economic development as I do.

What measure do you use to determine success?
It is essential to consider a combination of financial and non-financial measures. Financially, I track the growth of revenue and assess profitability as well as monitor cash flow. Non-financially, I monitor my clients’ feedback and referrals as well as assess the quality of the services I provide.

What piece of advice has impacted you the most?
Continuously educate and stay up to date on trends in the industry.

What message would you like to give to anybody who has a plan of creating something of their own and making a living through it?
Follow your passion and believe in yourself! Be prepared for setbacks and failures but see them as opportunities for growth and learning and always surround yourself with a support system that motivates and encourages you.
