Can you tell us a bit about your ‘backstory’ and how you got started?
My plan was to be a veterinarian. I am a huge animal lover and went to school and studied with every intention of attending vet school at the University of Florida. Life, however, has different plans. After a stint in graduate school at the University of South Florida and my mother experiencing a minor health problem, I could not see myself in Gainesville. I was working for a non-profit doing events, and fell into a love for planning, and saw a need for PR to support those events and clients. 20 years, and over 500 events later, I have built a successful business and reputation for delivering spectacular events, public relations services, and support.
What was the “Aha Moment” that led to the creation of your current company?
My aha moment came as I was hosting a fashion show for Hugo Boss. I was supporting a friend via the involvement of my athlete clients and planning, and a new client asked me to do their event. I was going to vet school. I was not on the trajectory to owning an event planning firm.
What do you think makes your company stand out?
I am passionate and detail driven. I am loyal to my clients, and my unwavering commitment is demonstrated by the results I produce for them.
What has been your favorite moment in your career so far?
Winning a James Beard award for my client was by far, a seminal moment in my career.
What measure do you use to determine success?
The determination of success can vary from person to person, as it is subjective and depends on individual goals, values, and aspirations. Ultimately, success is a deeply personal and multifaceted concept that can be defined in different ways by different individuals. To me, it’s that checklist. Did I do the things I set out to do, And with integrity?!
What piece of advice has impacted you the most?
The best piece of advice I have ever received is to “be the cream that rises to the top of the cup.” This metaphorical wisdom encourages me to strive for excellence, stand out, and surpass expectations. It reminds me to constantly improve myself, to be resilient and adaptable, and to always give my best effort. By embodying this, I aim to excel in whatever I do, to make a positive impact, and to inspire others to reach their full potential. This advice serves as a constant reminder to strive for greatness and to never settle for mediocrity.
What message would you like to give to anybody who has a plan of creating something of their own and making a living through it?
Believe in yourself and your idea: Have confidence in your capabilities and the value of your creation. Trust that you have something unique to offer and that there is an audience or market for it. Embrace your passion and let it drive you forward. Above all, remember that building something of your own and making a living through it is a journey. Embrace the process, stay focused, and celebrate small victories along the way. Stay true to your passion, work hard, and remain resilient. With dedication and perseverance, you can turn your vision into a reality.
